Update - December 12, 2008
Washington State University’s new 15-member university budget committee began its work at a meeting on Friday, Dec. 12.
The committee, chaired by President Elson S. Floyd and Provost and Executive Vice President Warwick M. Bayly, will assist in fact-finding and decision-making regarding the budget reductions facing the university for the upcoming biennium.
The committee discussed its membership, the committee’s charge, and its guiding principles. The principles include the following:
- Everything is on the table
- Protect people to the extent possible
- Maintain student access without compromising quality
- Emerge from the financial crisis as a stronger institution and as quickly as possible
- Be guided by strategic priorities
- Mission-driven decisions
- Diversify financial resources where possible and increase efficiency and productivity
Provost Bayly, UBC co-chair, said, “I am sure
that the committee will provide a thorough, objective
and fair review of all options. The
committee and I encourage all members of the university
community to submit suggestions for review through the
online form.”
The suggestion-submission form is available on the home page of the committee’s Web site: budget-committee.wsu.edu.
The committee also discussed and agreed to a series of communication actions, including updates from the committee to be published on its Web site.
The committee has 13 faculty and staff administrators in addition to President Floyd and Provost Bayly.
